Obituary of Arnold W. Henke


Arnold W. Henke, son of William Henke and M. Olive (Holcomb ) Henke was born September 9, 1919 at Western, Nebraska and passed away September 14, 2012 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, Kansas at the age of 93 years and 6 days.
Arnold received his education in the Western, Nebraska public schools. He joined the United States Air Force on January 14, 1942 , he was a Pilot serving during World War Two, served in the China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations, Clark Field, Philippine Islands, Hawaii, England. He served with the United States Air Force for 28 years and achieved the rank of Colonel. He retired from the Air Force on July 31, 1969. In 1969 he moved to Cuba, Ks where he farmed for 43 years. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Lee Frisbie on February 5, 1944 and to this union three sons and one daughter were born.
He was a member of Central Christian Church in Belleville, Ks. He was a member of the Belleville Masonic Lodge #129 AF & AM of Belleville, Ks, William Fleming American Legion Post #345 of Cuba, Kansas, VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and M. Olive Henke, wife, Marjorie Henke, one son, Rodney Henke, two sisters, Aileen Kuck, Aletha Sellenrick, four brothers, Alvin, Arley, Adrian and Audrey.
He is survived by one daughter, Ginger Birtell and her husband John of Wakarusa, Ks., two sons, Jim Henke and his wife Deb of Pratt, Ks., Glenn Henke and his wife Karen of Cuba, Ks., daughter in law, Sherri Henke of Medicine Lodge, Ks., 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one brother, Alfred Henke of Colorado Springs, Co., sister in law, Mary Henke of Washington, MI, special friend, Gladys Baxa of Cuba, Ks, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at Ten AM, Friday, September 21, 2012, Central Christian Church, Belleville, Ks, conducted by, Pastor Mark Imel.
Graveside service will be held Three PM, Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Fort Riley Post Cemetery, Fort Riley, Ks., with Military Graveside Services by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Ks, where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM.
