Obituary of Dale S. Stafford

Dale Samuel Stafford, the son of Harold Stafford and Florence (Leeding) Stafford, was born October 31, 1919 at Liberty Township, rural Republic County and passed away on August 25, 2013 at the Republic County-Long Term Care, Belleville, KS at the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 24 days.
Dale grew up in rural Republic County where he attended the District 61 Pleasant Grove School and later Republic High School, graduating in 1938. Dale farmed all of his lifetime on the family farm at rural Scandia. Dale enjoyed gardening, providing produce for people in the area and was known as the “watermelon man” through the years.
On December 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Ilene Carpenter and to this union was born three children: Patricia, Dennis, and Roger. The family made their home on the farm at rural Scandia.
Dale was a member of the United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS, REA Board, an ASCS committeeman, a member of the Pleasant Grove School Board and the Cemetery Board for Prairie Rose.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters: Marjorie, Rosalyn, Ruby, and Betty, and a grandson: Gregory Dale Stafford.
Dale is survived by his wife Marjorie Stafford of Scandia, KS; one daughter, Patricia E. (Steven) Cardwell of Lawrence, KS; two sons, Dennis D. (Sonja) Stafford of Wamego, KS and Roger H. (Esther) Stafford of Scandia, KS; one sister, Gwendolyn Walter of Belleville, KS; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Scandia United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kathy Aeillo, officiating.
Interment will be at the Washington Cemetery, rural Republic, KS.
Visitation will be from One PM until Nine PM on Wednesday and from Nine AM until Nine PM on Thursday where the family will receive friends from Six PM until 8 PM at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
Memorials are suggested the Scandia United Methodist Church or family choice.
