Obituary of Dorothy G. Alkire


Dorothy G. Alkire, the daughter of Toley Troy Tallent and Vinna Belle (Fry) Tallent, was born January 16, 1929 in Belleville, KS and passed away on November 12, 2017 in rural Belleville, KS at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
Dorothy grew up in rural Belleville, KS attending the rural country schools. She graduated from Belleville High School.
On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Alkire and to this union was born Mike, Randy, and Brenda.
Dorothy was a homemaker and wife for 63 years. She also worked for a few years in the lunchroom of the Eagle Valley Elementary in Eagle Valley, Colorado while the couple was living there. They later returned to Belleville, KS.
She was a member of Central Christian Church of Belleville, KS and active in HDU for several years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Toley and Vinna Tallent; three brothers, Gerald, Ron, and Dale Tallent; and one sister Edythe Hammer.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Alkire of rural Belleville, KS; two sons, Mike (Colleen) Alkire of Belleville,KS and Randy Alkire of Augusta, GA; one daughter, Brenda Gould of Belleville, KS; nine grandchildren: Jeremy (Ericka) Alkire of Lindsborg, KS, Nick (Janane) Alkire of Hutchinson, KS, Ashley Murphy of Hutchinson, KS, Vanessa (Rene) Villarreal of Sutton , NE, Joshua (Tara) Higby of Sutton, NE, Jonathon Higby, of Sutton, NE, Jacob Higby of Hastings, NE, Haley Higby of Geneva, NE and Tyler Alkire of Belleville, KS; seven great grandchildren: Grant Alkire, Sawyer Alkire, Jarrett Alkire, Nolan Alkire, Davin Higby, Remi Higby, and Grayson Villarreal; one brother, Jerry Tallent of Chanute, KS and one sister Ruth Everhart, of Belleville, KS; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville with Pastor Jeremy Wittwer, officiating.
Interment will be at the Belleville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from One PM until 8 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 14th and 9 AM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
