Obituary of: Duane A. Blackwood

 

Duane Alfred Blackwood, 81, was born May 5, 1933 to Alfred Albert and Luella (Roever) Blackwood in Oketo, Kansas. He passed away on November 9, 2014 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas. He was baptized at Friedens Lutheran Church at Home, Kansas on July 23, 1933. He was confirmed at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Marysville, Kansas on May 25, 1947.
He graduated from Marysville High School in Marysville, Kansas in 1951 and Kansas State University in 1955. He was in the ROTC in college and served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He taught Math and Science in Newton, Kansas and Washington, Kansas. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church since 1962, Good Sam Camping and the Republic County Historical Society.
He married Lola Mae Niemeier on August 23, 1953 at Immanual Evangelical Lutheran Church (Hermansberg), Bremen, Kansas. To this union four children were born, Sandra Sue, Harvey Lee, Sherrie Lynn and David Duane.
In 1962, Duane and Lola bought and ran the Belleville Locker Plant with his parents. Duane and Lola ran the Locker until their retirement in 2000.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, Lola Mae Blackwood, son, David Blackwood and stillborn sister.
Surviving him are his daughters, Sandra (Kyle) Swart, Marysville, Kansas, Sherrie Larson, Belleville, Kansas, son, Harvey, Belleville, Kansas and friend, Joy Erickson, Salina, Kansas, sister, Lola Mae Schmidt, Marshfield, Mo, and 6 grandchildren, Trina Swart, Wichita, Kansas, Brent Swart, Hays, Kansas, Kimberly Larson, Hays, Kansas, William Larson, Belleville, Kansas, Krista Blackwood, Manhattan, Kansas and Kaelen Blackwood, Overland Park, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Belleville Public Library or Rocky Pond Christmas Light display.
Funeral services will be held Ten Thirty AM, Friday, November 14 , 2014 at the American Lutheran Church in Belleville, Kansas, conducted by, Pastor Tom Kamprath. Graveside service and interment will be Two PM, Friday, at Immanual Evangelical Lutheran Church (Hermansberg), rural Bremen, Kansas.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 PM to 9 PM and Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday.
