Obituary of Shirley M. Duey:

Shirley May Duey, daughter of Joseph L. Duey and Minnie Dye Duey was born May 1, 1943 at Dr, Mullikins Maternity home in Chester, Nebraska.  The only child in a family of seven siblings that was not born at home.  She passed away on July 13, 2011 at Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 68 years.  She was baptized, confirmed and a member of the Chester United Methodist Church for  68 years.  She participated in youth activities and choir at church.
In her youth she was an active 4-H member exhibiting many entries at the county and state fairs as well as participating in demonstrations.  Detasseling corn was a summer “brow sweating” money raising project.
Shirley graduated from Chester High School in 1961 and Fairbury Jr College in 1963.  For the next 23 years she was employed at Woodmen Accident and Life Insurance in Lincoln, Nebraska.   She retired from INS Immigration in early 2000.
Even though Shirley worked in Lincoln, she spent many weekends in Chester helping to care for her aging parents.  During this time she enjoyed working at Footes Café on Saturday nights.  With her frequent trips to the parents farm, Shirley became very attached to the many farm cats.  She fed, nursed and loved each cat.  Two Parakeets, Benny and Joey, shared her apartment in Lincoln.  She talked, sang, and danced with Benny and Joey.  Selling Avon was her past time.  She always had an Avon gift for your birthday and Christmas gift.  Nieces and Nephews were Shirleys greatest admirations.  She never missed sending each one a card on their birthday and Christmas.  She especially was excited that she and a nephew shared the same birthday.  Poor health became an issue at an early age which caused Shirley to retire in her early 60’s.
