Obituary of Gene Havel

Earl Eugene (Gene) Havel, the son of Victor O. Havel, Sr. and Helen (Kasl) Havel, was born July 26, 1936 at Wayne, KS and passed away on January 6, 2016 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, KS at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Gene grew up and attended the local country schools, graduating from Cuba High School in 1955. He then attended and trained at the Vo-Tech, studying Carpentry in Salina, KS. He was janitor at Hillcrest High School and was a self-employed carpenter his entire life. He also worked for Walters Oil Company, Cuba, KS as a repairman/carpenter for several years and farmed on the side. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Stepanek and to this union was born Belinda, Lori, and Alissa. In 1989, he was united in marriage to Sharil (Asch) Heina. The last ten months of his life he spent at the Belleville Health Care Center, which he enjoyed being there with his sister Dorothy. He was a member of the Saddle Club, The Eagles, The Moose Lodge and the Cuba Coyote Club. He enjoyed his favorite dogs, Missy and Corky. He liked hunting, fishing, coyote hunting, working on race cars, going to car races, playing cards, going to the lake, and going to sales and auctions. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Brandi Havel; his brothers, Clair (Short) and Victor Havel Jr.; and one sister Marilyn Goppert. Gene is survived by his daughters, Belinda (Delton) Robison of Scandia, KS, Lori (Randy) Swiercinsky of Cuba, KS and Alissa Havel & Steve Rech of Belleville, KS; Step-sons: Terry (Rolinda) Heina of Junction City and Danny (Stephanie) Heina of Lincoln, Ks.; Grandchildren: Nicholas (Heather) Robison of Republic , Daniel (Davanie) Robison of Scandia, Kayla (JJ) Snyder of Cuba, Nena Robison & Jimmy Thomas of Solomon, Stephanie Swiercinsky and Branden Roop of Belleville, and Shelbie Swiercinsky of Cuba; Step-grandchildren, Tasha (Cory) Carter of Wichita, Sabrina, Hunter and Sidney of Lincoln, KS; Great grandchildren: Layton, Xavier, Alex, Zyden and Caysyn; Step-Great grandchildren: Tucker, Ryley, Jacey, Payton, Clayton and Laramie; Sister: Dorothy (Dale) Vanous of Cuba, KS; sister-in-law: Delores Havel of Texas; Friend: Sharil Havel of Cuba and many other relatives and friends
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church, Cuba, KS with Pastor Phil Goombi, officiating.
Interment will be at the National Bohemian Cemetery, rural Cuba, KS.
