Obituary of Dr. George C. Wreath:


    Dr. George C. Wreath, son of Levi George Wreath and Esther Erickson Wreath was born March 12, 1921 at Manhattan, Kansas and passed away on September 30, 2011 at Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 18 days.
     He attended College Hill Elementary school and  graduated from Manhattan High School, received a B.S. in Animal Husbandry from KSU and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University.  He was united in marriage to Joyce M. Marsicek of Narka, Ks. on December 27, 1953 and to this union two sons were born, Michael and Dana.   In 1945 he began his veterinary practice in Belleville and was a life long Veterinarian in the Belleville community.  He served on the Belleville City Council and as Mayor of the city of Belleville from 1955--1959 and was a long time promoter of Belleville business developments.  He provided a scholarship to a Belleville High School FFA student for agriculture education for 25 years The Belleville Public Library was constructed during his term as Mayor.  He was a founding partner in the Belleville Livestock Sales Commision, and a partner in Belleville Senior Citizens complex, and a partner in the Intermountain Veterinary Supply company.
     He was a member of the Belleville Presbyterian Church, life member of the AVMA, long time member of the registered Hereferd and Duroc associations.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Esther Wreath, one sister, Martha Streeter and husband Charles, one nephew, Arthur Streeter.
    He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wreath of Belleville, Kansas, two sons, Michael J. Wreath and wife Terry of O’Fallon, Missouri, Dana G. Wreath and wife JoAnn of Wichita, Ks, six grandchildren, Eric C. Wreath of Wichita, Ks, Alex G. Wreath of Wichita, Ks, Stuart J. Wreath of Wichita, Ks, Colin L. Wreath of Wichita, Ks, Lark T. Wreath of O’Fallon, Missouri, Clara L. Griffin and husband Garrett  of Ann Arbor, Michigan, nephew, Brad Streeter and wife Karen of Manhattan, Ks, niece, Wreatha Tenney of Phoenix, Arizona, several gr eat nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
     Funeral services will be held Ten AM, Monday, October 3, 2011, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, Ks, conducted by, Mr. Henry Strnad.
    Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Belleville, Kansas
     Memorials may be given to Meadowlark Hospice or Belleville Public Library.
