Obituary of Gladys I. Novak:

Gladys Irene Novak, daughter of Thomas and Emma (Hackbarth) Miller, was born April 5, 1924, on a farm north of Morrowville, KS., and passed away on December 22, 2016 at Belleville, KS., at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Gladys was one of eleven children. She attended rural Lowe Center School through the eighth grade. As a child, she grew up going to many barn dances and neighborhood gatherings, as her parents and older siblings had a family band that performed at them.
During her younger years, she did domestic work for neighboring families and later worked for Victory Hatchery in Fairbury, NE. She met Robert Novak at Reno #2, in rural Mahaska, KS., during a roller skating event. They then had their first date, going to a show at the Bonham Theater in Fairbury, NE. They dated all the while that Robert was in the Army in WWII. After Robert was discharged, Robert and Gladys were married in Washington, KS., on October 29, 1945. They purchased a farm northeast of Haddam, KS. She helped farm, milk cows, raised a large garden, canned, sewed, quilted and raised lots of chickens, all the while raising their four children, Les, Roger, Judy and Rick. As an avid quilter she made many hand made quilts for her children and grandchildren. Gladys and Robert spent many nights playing cards with family and friends and loved going to dances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, brothers, Luther, Delmer and Harold Miller, sisters, Annie Terpening, Minnie Terpening, Elda Adkins, Hilda Hauschel, Evelyn Hinel and many other relatives and friends.
She will be forever remembered by her children, Les (Annalee) Novak, Munden, KS., Roger (Jean) Novak, Narka, KS., Judy (Marlin) Smith, Chester, NE. and Rick (Joanna) Novak of Haddam, KS., 12 Grandchildren, Rachelle (Brent) Scott, Belleville, KS., Lesley (Robert) Popelka, Cuba, KS., Troy Novak, Munden, KS., Brian (Barbara) Novak, Martell, NE., Jeff (Melissa) Novak, Narka, KS., Jamie (Todd) Johnson, Denton, NE., Cathy (Lyle) Weber, Dorchester, NE., Lisa (Mark) Rickman, Thornton, CO., Lori (Brad) Hogan, Cortland, NE., Justin (Nicole) Novak, Haddam, KS., Mark (Dea) Novak, Haddam, KS., Becky (Luke) Simon, Haddam, KS., 27 Great Grandchildren, Kendra and Madison Scott, Tyler and Nicole Popelka, Brianna, Wyatt, Anthony, and Kylee, Novak, Kaden and Greyson Novak, Landon and Morgan Johnson, Ryan and Haley Weber, Samantha, Wyatt and Paisley Rickman, Cassidy, Cooper and Cody Hogan, Taeler, Izabella and Bronson Novak, and Destyni, Blake, Arika and Garett Novak, two sisters, Bertilla (Rex) Lichtenberger, Beatrice, NE. and Martha Harris, Crete, Nebraska, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 27, 2016, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS, conducted by Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock.
Interment will be in National Cemetery, rural Narka, KS.,
Memorials may be given to Family Choice.
Friends may call on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 1 PM to 8 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS., where the family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM
