Obituary of James R. Duffey

James R. Duffey, the son of Louis Albert Duffey and Pauline Josephine (Carter)
Duffey, was born February 6, 1928 at Birmingham, Alabama and passed away on April 2, 2012 at Belleville, KS at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 26 days.
Jim grew up and attended the local public schools in Birmingham. On December 27, 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he served as a 1st Class Seaman until Oct. 22, 1947.
He then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from June 22, 1949 until September 1, 1967 when he retired as a T/SGT (E-6). During his service, he received these medals: the American Area Campaign, W.W. II Victory, Korean Service, United Nations National Defense, Good Conduct, and the Air Force Commendation.
On February 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Shadduck and to this union was born: Lori Ann, Staci Jo, and Tina Louise.
After 1970, the couple settled in Formoso where he worked for the Jewell County Highway Department until he retired in 1991. In 1992, they moved to Belleville, KS to make their home.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 49 years, a Lifetime V.F.W. Member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, wood working and enjoyed his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Louis Duffey. He is survived by his wife Margaret L. Duffey of Belleville, KS; three daughters: Lori (David) Barnes of Smith Center, KS, Staci (Rick) Allen of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Tina (Kevin) Mills of Chesapeake, VA; one brother: Robert (Dee) Duffey of Derby, KS; one sister: Mary (Cas) Castrignano of Woodland, Washington; a sister-in-law Doris Duffey of Alabama; 8 Grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at TEN AM Friday, April 6, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville with Pastor Lennie Maxwell, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Washington Cemetery, rural Republic, KS. Masonic Graveside rites will be conducted by the Belleville Masonic Lodge #129 AF&AM.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Memorials are suggested to family choice. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
