Obituary of James Rhine


James Rhine, the son of Lester W. Rhine and Zola (Landis) Rhine, was born November 13, 1933 at rural Haddam, KS and passed away on August 16, 2016 at Bryan LG West, Lincoln, NE at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
James grew up in the Haworth/Haddam communities, graduating from Haddam High School in 1951. Following his graduation, he began to farm on the family farm. He served with the U. S. Army from November 17, 1953 until his honorable discharge on November 18, 1955, serving at Ft. Dawes, Massachusetts.
He returned after his discharge and farmed the family farm all of his life. James also did custom combing for several years.
On June 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Arlene Jones. The couple made their home in Haddam, KS for many years until moving to Belleville in 1990. She preceded him in death in 2004.
James was a member of the Brantford Covenant Church, the Eagles Club, and was Treasurer for the Haddam Rural Fire Dept. #6 for several years. He was a member of the National Campers and Hikers and held state offices in that organization. He also enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, AZ for many years.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Arlene, an infant twin brother, one great granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Rutledge; two brothers Elden and Dale; and two sisters, Lola Menke and Marge Huscher.
He is survived by 3 sons, Don (Jill) Rhine of San Antonio, TX, Dave (Tamera) Rhine of Killeen, TX, and Dennis ( Jane) Rhine of Hebron, NE; five daughters, Linda (James) Burton of Haddam, KS, Sharon (Randy) Clark of Sedan, KS, Phyllis Thomas of Talmage, KS, Glenda (Michael) Uhlrich of Washington, KS, and Alice (Darin) Stepanek of Enterprise, KS; 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, and two step great grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Brantford Covenant Church, Brantford, KS, with Pastor Mike McInnis, officiating.
Interment will be at the Haddam Cemetery, Haddam, KS.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, KS.
Friends may call from One PM until 9 PM on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS where the family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Brantford Covenant Church.
