Obituary of Joseph Clark Posey

 

Joseph Clark Posey, the son of John R. and Mary R. (Barrett) Posey, was born July 30, 1932 in Hubbell, Nebraska. He departed this life Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron at the age of 86 years.

Joe, the youngest of four children, grew up in the Hubbell area attending Union grade school and graduating from Hebron High School with the class of 1950. Upon graduation he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Joe worked in construction in Colorado for a few years before returning to Thayer County in 1957 to farm near Hubbell with his dad, and brother, Jim.

Joe was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Hubbell. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

On February 29, 1980, Joe and Ina (Sue) Cox were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Hubbell during an early-spring snow storm. They were married 35 years, and made their home on a farm north of Hubbell. Sue passed away in 2016. In 2013, Joe moved to Courtyard Terrace in Hebron.

Joe’s passion was farming and working in his shop with wood and metal. He retired from farming in 2003. Joe lived his life with an optimistic temperament. He was never one to be fault-finding or critical. He was a fast friend to all who knew him. An active community member, Joe served in several organizations and boards including Hubbell Lions Club, Hubbell Volunteer Fire Department, Hubbell Elevator Board, Hubbell Methodist Church Trustee, Hubbell Community Hall Board, and Hubbell Cemetery Board.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sue, his parents Roy & Mame Posey; brother John Posey and wife Virginia; brother, James Posey and wife Roma; sister Lorena Howard Shick and husband Harold; and brother-in-law Robert Cox. Left to cherish his memory are his step children Vernie McNamee of Lafayette, LA, Jon Kaenel of New Iberia, LA, Joni Branigan and husband Michael of Papillion, NE, Debra Wallace of Siloam Springs, AR, and Lisa Christensen and husband Kelly of Youngsville, LA; 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathi Ekeler and husband Kenneth of York, NE, and sister-in-law Mitzi Gitlin and husband Terry of Castro Valley, CA; and dear nephews, nieces, and many, many friends.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Chester, Nebraska at 11:00am. Officiant will be Pastor Rick Jones, congregational hymns “Here I Am” and “Hymn of Promise”. Burial will be in the Hubbell Cemetery.

Friends may call to sign the register book from 1 PM until 5 PM Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas.
