Obituary of Larry Dean Rundus

Larry Dean Rundus, son of Elmer Charles Rundus and Ann Josephine (Spurney) Rundus, was born in Belleville, KS on June 16, 1945 and departed this life on July 12, 2015 at the age of 70 years and 27 days.
Larry was educated in the Pleasant View and Spring Hill grade schools in rural Republic County and graduated from Belleville High School in 1963. After high school, he attended Fairbury Junior College and Emporia State Teacher’s College where he graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.
Upon graduation from Emporia State, Larry taught in Jetmore, KS, until he was drafted and served with the US Army in Southeast Asia. Upon completion of his tour, Larry taught in Holton, Ks and Satanta, KS where he met the teacher he would marry.
On June 17, 1972, Larry was united in marriage to Leora Kay Younce in Anthony, KS and they continued to teach in Satanta. In 1974, they returned to Republic County, buying the Duane Johnson farm. Two sons blessed this marriage, Lance Dean in 1975 and Laine Charles in 1977. The first of his daughters, Debra Lynn Johnson joined the family marrying Lance in 1994 and the second, Mellissa Kaye Vopat, married Laine in 2000.
Larry had great love for his family and found real joy and satisfaction in farming. He was a willing worker and served his township on various committees. He was proud of the Czech heritage and loved sharing it with his family. He appreciated his First Baptist Church family and was a willing participant in any task asked of him. He was well known for his love and knowledge of Case Equipment. There wasn’t much he could not fix. In later years, the Munden Coffee Club was a source of enjoyment where he was happy to help prepare and set up. Much more could be said about this man but it was his wish to keep things simple and remind those of us left behind to prepare ourselves to meet the Lord.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Elmer (1960), his mother Ann, (1970), his brother Paul (1983), his mother-in-law, Geneva Younce (1991), father-in-law Floyd Younce (1997), sister-in-law, Sharon Rundus (2002) and beloved aunt, Rose Sterba (2013).
Larry will be greatly missed by his wife Leora, of the home; son Lance and family on Munden, KS; and son Laine and family of Manhattan. He was a loving granddad to Eleazar, Ahava, Benaiah, Asher, and Eliana. He was Henry’s adoring grandpa.
He will be missed also by brother-in-law, Eldon (Karen) Younce; nephews, nieces, cousins, and Barbara Anne Newcomb (Gary Lightfoot), sister, though daughter of Rose and Frank Sterba.
Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Belleville, KS with Pastors Bruce Burfield and Ray Berry, officiating.
Inurnment will follow the services at Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, KS.
