Lenard Eitzmann Obituary

Lenard Henry Albert Eitzmann, one of five children, was born May 24, 1922 to Carl and Dora (Mueller) Eitzmann on the family farm near Hardy, NE. He was baptized June 4, 1922 by Pastor C.W. Seybold and he was confirmed December 6, 1936 by Pastor L. Hoeffer at St. Peters Lutheran Church, rural Byron, NE. His confirmation verse was Revelations 2:10.
Be thou faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life.
He attended the rural schools District 102 (Triumph) and District 77 (Prairie Dell) Kansas. As a young man, Lenard went along to North Dakota to help with harvest and to Iowa to help pick corn during the years of depression. He was engaged in farming when he married Luella (Aden) on June 23, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church (Stone) near Auburn, Nebraska by Pastor G.K. Wienke. They shared their home with Lenard’s parents, the Carl Eitzmann’s, until his parents death. Lenard served on the church council a few years and was a member of Byron Senior Citizens Club along with becoming a member of Spring Creek Square Dance Club in the 1980’s. Square Dancing was something Lenard looked forward to and loved his doe si does. They were blessed with three children, Harlan, Linda Lou and Phyllis Jean. When he retired from farming, they moved to Byron in 1974. Even though they lived in Byron, Lenard still drove to the farm every day and continued one of his favorite pastime activities: chopping thistles. Lenard remained in his home in Byron until entering long term care in Belleville, KS and finally moving to Parkview Haven, Deshler, NE on September 9, 2015 where he entered his eternal home on Oct. 4, 2015 at the age of 93 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Elmer along with his brother, Oscar and Arthur, as well as his daughter, Linda Lou Douglas.
Lenard is survived by his wife, Luella; his children, Harlan (Linda Marie) Eitzmann of Hardy, NE, son-in-law, David Douglas of Houston, TX, and Phyllis (Frank) Habbart of Salina, KS; grandchildren. Bryan (Stacey) Eitzmann of Kansas City, MO, Nicole (Chris) Kallenbach of Wichita, KS, Michael (Sandra) Habbart of Wichita, KS, Julie (Eric) Hutchinson of Lawrence, KS and Chelsea Douglas of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Luke Anthony, Harlan Jack and Annabell Marie Eitzmann of Kansas City, MO; Stuart Alan and Alexandria Beth Habbart of Wichita, KS and Aria Sophia Hutchinson of Lawrence, KS. Lenard is also mourned by his sister Elsa Michael of Auburn, NE, and sister-in-law, Hilda Eitzmann of Lincoln, NE, Erma Brewer and Velma Morton both of Auburn, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, rural Byron, NE with Pastor Breen Sipes, officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from One PM until 9 PM on Thursday and from 9 AM until 9 PM on Friday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkview Haven Nursing Home.
