Obituary of Lola Mae Blackwood


Lola Mae Blackwood, the daughter of Herman Henry William Niemeier and Wilhelmine Emilie Margaretha Lohse Niemeier, was born December 29, 1931 at Bremen, KS and passed away on October 22, 2014 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 23 days.
She grew up in the Bremen, KS area and was baptized on January 17, 1932 and later confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Bremen, KS on March 25, 1945. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 24, Verse 13. Lola Mae graduated from Marysville High School in 1950.
On August 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Duane A. Blackwood and to this union was born: Sandy, Harvey, Sherrie, and David.
The couple moved to Belleville, KS where they owned and operated the Belleville Locker Plant for many years. Lola Mae also did the bookkeeping and was a meat wrapper at the plant.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Belleville, KS where she was involved with the Heart of the Prairie Quilt Guild and the Welca Ladies Group, members of the Good Sam Camping Club.
Lola Mae was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Blackwood; three sisters,
Elsie Gerdes, Orlinda Harnisch, and Hermenia Metschke; an infant sister, Edna Niemeier; and two brothers, Alfred Niemeier and Adelbert Niemeier.
Lola Mae is survived by her husband Duane A. Blackwood of Belleville, KS, one son, Harvey Blackwood of Belleville, KS; two daughters, Sandy (Kyle) Swart of Marysville, KS and Sherrie Larson of Belleville, KS; six grandchildren; two sisters, Verda Mueller of Fremont, NE and Delores Koch of Omaha, NE; one brother, Edgar Niemeier of Marysville, KS; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at the American Lutheran Church, Belleville, KS with Pastor Tom Kamprath, officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Bremen, KS.
Friends may call from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, Oct. 30th and from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM Friday, Oct. 31st at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or the Belleville Health Care Center.
