Obituary of Robert W. “Bob” Mutz


Robert W. “Bob” Mutz, the son of Lawrence Mutz & Mary (Mae) Catherine(Yates) Mutz, born July 15, 1926 in Springfield, MO, passed away on March 15, 2012 in Belleville, KS at the age of 85 years and 8 months.
Bob grew up and attended school in Springfield, MO, graduating from High School, He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, in January 1945. He returned to Springfield, went to school and became an implement mechanic, working in Marshall and Sweet Springs, MO. He found his way to the Kansas City area, where he was a partner in All Appliance Service in Raytown, and was an electrician for many years for Nichols Electric in Independence, MO. In 1976, he “sold the farm” in rural Buckner, MO, and bought a motel in Ponca City, OK. After 2 years and the addition of the Best Western brand, he sold the motel and bought another in Grandview Plaza/Junction City, KS, retiring in 1982. After the motel business, Bob and his wife, Martha, were partners in Bob & Genes’ Travel, and for many years, Bob had a small shop in downtown Junction City called “Hidden Treasures” which kept him active and busy. He truly never met a stranger, and loved having the store and all of the people it brought to him.
On October 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Martha Ann Hillebrenner, Sweet Springs, MO, and to that union, Randall, Matthew, & Marta were born. A son, Jesse was from a previous marriage.
A member of the Junction City Rotary Club, a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #76, Independence, MO, a 50 year member of the Ararat Shrine, KC, MO, Boy Scout leader, Troop 226, Independence, MO, Honorary Warrior, Tribe of Mic-0-Say, Osceola, MO and a member of the Oakland Methodist Church, Buckner, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister; Josephine Alma Boyer.
Bob is survived by his wife Martha Ann Mutz of Belleville, KS; three sons, Jesse D (Shirley) Mutz of Joplin, MO, Randall A. (Kathy) Mutz of Belleville, KS, and Matthew T. Mutz of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Marta G. (Jim) Harra, of Columbia, TN; one sister: Jacqueline (Tom) Holroyd of San Jose, CA; 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A private family service was held at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, with cremation to follow. A memorial service and burial are planned for a later date at the Oakland Methodist Church, Buckner, MO
