Obituary of Robert D. “Bob” Wagor

Robert D. “Bob” Wagor, the son of Fred Wagor and Rose Helen (Strnad) Wagor, was born June 1, 1920 in rural Munden, KS and passed away on March 31, 2016 at Republic County-Long Term Care, Belleville, KS at the age of 95 years, 9 months, and 30 days.
Bob grew up in the Norway, Kansas community, graduating from Norway High School.
Bob served with the U. S. Army Air Corps during W. W. II from January 18, 1942 until his honorable discharge on September 6, 1945. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and was involved in 37 B-24 missions over Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with one Silver Oak and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Distinguished Unit Badge.
He worked with his Father, Fred Wagor, farming near Berryton, KS and later moved to Concordia and with his Brother, Max Wagor, owned and operated an auto and implement repair shop. He also farmed and was also the Assistant Manager of the Concordia Co-op for many years. He then moved to Scandia, KS to make his home and was in charge of maintenance at the Bel Villa Motel, Belleville, KS until his retirement.
Bob was a former member of the Concordia V.F.W. and the Scandia American Legion. He also was a member of the Liberandos-376th Heavy Bomb Group-US Army 9th Air Corps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Max Wagor.
Bob is survived by one brother, Jaris (Karen) Wagor of Milford, KS, nieces and nephews: Steven Wagor of Larkspur, CO, Kathy Melby of Scandia, KS, Kimberly Swanson of Scandia, KS, David Wagor of Phoenix, AZ, James Kiley of Wellsville, KS, Larry Wagor of Farmville, VA, and Jeffrey Wagor of Loveland, CO; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS with Pastor Mark Baldwin, officiating.
Interment will be at the Norway Cemetery, Norway, KS with Military Graveside Rites by the Ft. Riley Honors Detail, Ft. Riley, KS.
Friends may call at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS from One PM until 9PM on Friday and 9AM until 2 PM on Saturday.
