Obituary of Shary Allison Day

Shary Allison Day, daughter of Nicholas S. Day and Audrey F. (Kunc) Day was born February 22, 1972 at Fort Riley, Kansas and departed this life on September 18, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 42 years, 6 months and 26 days.
Shary graduated Valedictorian from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. She was the first female battalion commander in the 16 state ROTC region. She was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Intelligence Field. She served in Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom and in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom as a Military Intelligence Analyst and attained the rank of Captain. She was awarded the C.A.B. ( Combat Action Badge) while serving in Iraq.
Shary was a member of the VFW, and a life member of the William Fleming American Legion Post # 345 of Cuba, KS. Life member of the NRA.
She is survived by her parents, Nick and Audrey Day of Cuba, KS., one sister, Susan (Chris) Kallaher of North Las Vegas, NV., one niece, Alexandra Kallaher , one nephew, Brooks Kallaher , Aunts, Uncles, other relatives and a world wide host of many friends.
Funeral services will be held, Ten Thirty AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014, Main Post Chapel, Fort Riley, KS.
Military Graveside Service by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Interment will be in the Fort Riley Veterans Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the William Fleming American Legion Post No. 345, Cuba, KS.
