Obituary of V.L. “Lee” Combs


V.L. “Lee” Combs, son of Vester Combs and Pearl (LaRue) Combs was born December 29, 1925 at Rural Branson, Missouri and passed away on July 25, 2016 at the Sunset Home, Concordia, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 26 days.
He graduated from Branson High School, Branson Missouri. He served with the United States Army during World War Two. He was united in marriage to Eileen Ruth Ames on November 27, 1955 at rural Scandia, Kansas and this home was blessed by two sons, Darrell Lynn and Neal Burton Combs.
Lee was a farmer and rancher in the Norway area where he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and swapping stories with friends and family over coffee. He was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Pearl Combs, wife, Eileen R. Combs, two sisters, Lucille Clevenger and Vivian Tolbert, one brother, Vernon Call.
He is survived by two sons, Col. Darrell L. (Carol) Combs of Tampa, Florida, Neal B. (Cosetta) Combs of Norwalk, Ohio, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Cremation was chosen.
Memorial services will be held Ten AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2016, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norway, Kansas, conducted by, Pastor Ethan Feistner.
Inurnment will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, rural Norway, Kansas.
Military Graveside Services by the Fort Riley Honor Guard
Memorials may be given to Golden Bell Senior Center.
Friends may sign the register book on Monday, August 2, 2016 from 1 PM to 8 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS. where the family will receive friends on Monday from 6 PM to 8 PM.
