Obituary of Vern (Vernor) D. Bunch

Vern D. Bunch, better known as “Vernor” to his friends, was the son of Ralph Bunch and Mabel (Johnson) Bunch was born March 18, 1935 at Enid, Oklahoma and passed away on December 22, 2014 at Republic County Long Term Care, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 4 days.
After the death of his mother in 1937, Vern was raised by Sam and Lillian Wylie. Vern attended eight different schools in four states before graduating from the Cuba High School in 1953.
Vern was united in marriage to Donna Jean Taylor on June 12, 1954 and to this union four children were born, Barbara, Linda, Pamela and Gary. During his life Vern worked as a heavy equipment operator, a carpenter and retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation as a Engineering Technician after 39 ½ years of service. After retirement he bought a farm and raised cattle for a pass time.
Vern was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many seasons hunting elk in the Rocky Mountains. He was the co-founder of the Kansas Walleye Association and served as vice president for several years. He loved the outdoors and treasured the time that he could take his children and grandchildren hunting or fishing and camping. He and Jean liked to travel in their motorhome to far away places and spend time showing the pictures they took along the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mabel Bunch, foster parents, Sam and Lillian Wylie, Elmer Jeffery, half sister, Slyvia Sauerbry, half brother, Ralph Bunch Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Jean Bunch of Cuba, KS. one son, Gary (Rebecca) Bunch of Narka, KS., three daughters, Barbara (Charles) Rott of Clay Center, KS., Linda (Butch) Gieber of Cuba, KS., Pam (Phil) Deneault of Concordia, KS. twelve grandchildren, Amy Huncovsky, Jeremy Rott, Alisha Blackwood, Kimbrey Hinton, Chad Gieber, Eric Deneault, Brady Rott, Joey Rott, Stacy Prickett, Krystina Morris, Nikki Uffman, Jeremiah Bunch, twenty four great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, Two step great grandchildren, half sister, Betty McCaskin of Las Cruces, NM, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Ten AM, Friday, December 26, 2014, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, Ks, conducted by, Pastor Mark Imel.
Interment will be in Mahaska Cemetery, Mahaska, KS.
Memorials may be given to Cuba Senior Citizens Center
Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 PM to 5 PM, Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM, where the family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday.
