Obituary of Virginia Herrman


Virginia Ellen Herrman, the daughter of Guy and Katie (Ball) Persinger, was born on a farm near Rydal, KS on January 17, 1923 and passed away on January 7, 2012 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 20 days.
Virginia was raised in Republic County, KS and attended District 35 and No. 9 rural schools. She graduated from Scandia High School as salutatorian of the class of 1942. In 1942-1943, she took Normal Training, passing the state teaching exams at Republic High School and taught 4 years in Republic County. She moved to Nebraska and taught in Cass County Rural Schools 4 years. She moved to Jewell County, KS and taught 2 years. She also taught in Agenda, Cedar Creek and Lovewell and other rural schools. She attended Kansas State and Peru State Teachers College.
On July 10, 1953, she was united in marriage to Clarence Herrman and moved near Norway, KS and to this union were born 2 sons: Leroy Clarence and Marvin Dale. An infant son: Larry Dean died at birth. The couple was married for 57 years and lived southeast of Scandia on the farm. In March of 2009, she and Clarence moved to Long Term Care and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2010.
Virginia joined the Scandia United Methodist Church where she assisted with Sunday School and Bible School as her sons grew to adults. She was a U.M.W. member as long as health permitted. Virginia was a Community Leader in 4-H. This was a very special time in her life as she enjoyed the members and families. She also belonged to the county extension club for several years and to the 47 card club for many years as it met once a month with neighbors.
Virginia was proud of all her family and their good qualities. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son: Larry Dean, her husband Clarence in 2010, and brothers: Billy and Omar.
Virginia is survived by two sons: Leroy Herrman of Scandia, KS and Marvin Herrman and wife Kayann of Scandia, KS; granddaughter Brenda Morgan and children Kiersten and Sean of Norway, KS; granddaughter Katie Isaacson and children: Brecken and Kennison of rural Scandia, KS; granddaughter Brandi (Travis) Bray and children Kaylee, Natalee, and Lanee of Norway, KS; grandson Danny Herrman Marine SGT. Stationed in Arizona, and grandson Levi Herrman of Scandia, KS.; two brothers: James (Lois) Persinger of Syracuse, NE and Arlie (Marlene) Persinger of Plattsmouth, NE, one sister Ruth (Steve) Gray of Plattsmouth, NE; sister-in-law: Ruth Persinger of Louisville, NE; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Scandia United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS with Pastor Kathy Aeillo, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, KS
Friends may call from 1PM until 9PM on Tuesday and from 9AM until 9PM on Wednesday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
Memorials are suggested to the Scandia United Methodist Church.
