Obituary of Warren V. McCracken:

Warren V. McCracken, the youngest son of Thaddeus Lindley McCracken and Myrtle Abbie (Dorman) McCracken was born March 14, 1924 three and half miles east of Cuba, Kansas and passed away on July 31, 2014 at Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 17 days.
He graduated from Belleville High School in 1942. Like most of his “Greatest Generation”, Warren served admirably in the United States Army from 1943 in the European theatre of Great Britain, France, Germany, prior to receiving his honorable discharge from the military in 1946. On June 29, 1947 he was united in marriage to Gladys Bednar and they had 67 years together. To this union two children were born, Alesia and Randy. After his discharge, Warren pursued his passion as a master mechanic in Klamath Falls, Oregon and upon returning to Belleville, he owned and operated with his father in law, Joe Bednar, the Sinclair Filling Station. Upon selling the business he embarked on his career as a United States Postal employee for many many years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Ks. A life long member of Baker Holmes VFW Post No. 3722 and served as Post Commander in 1958-1959, and the Robert E. Gordon American Legion Post No. 133, Belleville, Ks.
Warren enjoyed and was very efficient at any type of household construction project. He enjoyed camping, particularly their winter trips to McAllen, Texas and especially loved all of his grandchildren and their summer stays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus and Myrtle McCracken, one brother, Donald McCracken, two sisters, June E. Anderson and Louise Kaufman.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys McCracken of Belleville, Kansas, one daughter, Alesia (David) Stroh of Midwest City, Oklahoma, one son, Randy (Cam) McCracken of Manhattan, Kansas, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at Ten Thirty AM, Monday, August 4, 2014, First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Ks, conducted by, Rev. R.C. McConnell and Rev. Emily Meckley.
Military Graveside Service by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Ks.
Memorials may be given to North Central Kansas Health Care Foundation or First United Methodist Church.
Friends may call on Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM, Sunday from 1 PM to 9 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Ks.
