Obituary of William “Lon” Stark


William “Lon” Stark, the son of Lon Stark and Inez “Nan” (Radford) Stark, was born May 14, 1924 at Port Angeles, Washington and passed away on February 1, 2015 at Republic County-Long Term Care, Belleville, KS at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 17 days.
Lon grew up in the Seattle, WA area attending the local public schools. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy and finished high school while in the Navy.
Lon served with the US Navy during W. W. II from 1941 until 1947. He was a plane captain-machinist second class and served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, Marianna Islands, and Marshall Islands. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He continued to serve with the US Navy actively until 1950 and as a reservist until his honorable discharge in 1969.
Lon attended and received a certificate from the Northwest Railway Telegraph School in 1953. He then worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad, Seattle, Washington for 30 years until his retirement.
On April 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Heym. The couple made their home in the Seattle, WA area until 2001 when they moved to Jamestown, KS and later to Belleville, KS in 2002.
He was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. and the N.R.A.
He also enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Lon was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Donna M. Stark of Belleville, KS; step daughter, Gail L. (Larry) Baxa of Belleville, KS; one daughter, Janice McCall of Kirkland, WA, one son, Jeffery D. Stark, of Seattle, WA, one brother, Robert (Elaine) Stark also of Seattle, WA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
Cremation was selected and his ashes will be scattered in the ocean waters off the coast of Port Angeles, WA by the US Coast Guard per his wishes. No services are planned.
