Obituary of Wilma E. Herzfeld

Wilma Ethel Herzfeld, the daughter of William Harrison Long and Nora Ethel (Marvin) Long, was born January 29, 1921 at Minneapolis, KS and passed away on December 17, 2011 at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 16 days. Wilma grew up in Minneapolis, KS, attending school and graduating Salutatorian of her class. Following her schooling, she moved to the Wichita, KS area where she attended business college.
On August 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to Walter Herzfeld. The couple made their home in Clearwater, KS for many years. Wilma was a stenographer and bookkeeper for Consolidated Freight in Wichita for several years, and later for Walt’s Mobile Home Repair at Haysville, KS. She also owned and operated a clothing store in Haysville.
Wilma was an accomplished artist, selling paintings that hang in several states. She also owned and operated her own gallery: Herzfeld-Weidman Gallery, and was named artist of the month in the Haysville Times in 2001. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter Herzfeld in 2010, and her sister Sylvia Riordan.
She is survived by nephew Bill Riordan of Salina, KS; one brother-in-law Frank Herzfeld of Milford, NE, three sister-in-laws Mary Roop of Chester, NE, Pauline Fry of Concordia, KS and Molly Longacre of Mesa, AZ; many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Two PM, Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, with Les Kuczynski, officiating. Interment will be at the Ida Cemetery, rural Munden, KS.
Visitation will be from 9AM-9PM Wednesday and from 9AM-service time on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to family choice.
